About
I have been a chef in the food service industry for 15 years, and a personal chef for 5 years. I completed my culinary studies at Johnson & Wales University where I obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Culinary Arts & Food Service Management. I am currently enrolled in advanced studies to obtain a certification in Holistic Nutrition. Throughout my culinary career I have gained experience through catering for weddings, bar mitzvahs, corporate events, freelancing, pop dinners, personal chef gigs. I am currently a Commissary Manager at Cescaphe Event Group in Philadelphia, PA. I also provide vegan private, personal chef services, teach plant-based cooking classes through my company Essential Roots (www.EssentialRootsByRR.com).
At a young age I developed a passion for cooking through my mother and aunt who taught me how to cook traditional Jamaican cuisine. Many of my flavor profile and style of cooking are derived from my Caribbean background. I have been a vegan for 7 years. I became vegan due to health issues that caused endometriosis. Many foods that I would intake caused inflammation and abdominal pain. Since transitioning to a plant-based diet and incorporating more nutrient forward foods, I have been able to reverse my endometriosis. My passion for helping others curate a healthy lifestyle, build creativity in the kitchen through nutrient forward, flavorful foods has assisted many clients with being open to change without depriving themselves of tasty dishes. Throughout the years of being a private chef, I have worked one on one with clients creating menus based on their specific dietary needs, sourcing fresh ingredients, developing weekly meal prep, intimate dinner parties, celebration menus, wedding plant-based dinner menus.
