Overview
A private couple in Washington, CT is seeking a highly experienced, hands-on, live-out Groundsman to replace a long-tenured team member who is retiring. This is a senior-level, “lead by example” role for a skilled professional who takes pride in maintaining immaculate grounds and can both execute and oversee all aspects of landscaping and exterior property care.
This is not a caretaker role; the property operates with planned, structured seasonal maintenance and high standards of presentation year-round. This is a Monday through Friday position with flexibility to be on-call for major weather events. e.g., storms, fallen trees. Flexibility and support will be required for occasional event support with advance notice.

Responsibilities
Include, but are not limited to:
- Perform and oversee all aspects of landscape maintenance, including mowing, planting, pruning, and seasonal upkeep
- Operate and maintain all landscaping equipment with expertise and care
- Conduct regular property walk-throughs to identify issues and ensure grounds are maintained to the highest standard
- Troubleshoot and monitor irrigation systems
- Coordinate and communicate with external vendors for specialized services
- Work closely with household management on vendor scheduling and project execution
- Lead a small team (approximately 3 staff), including delegating tasks, training, and ensuring quality control
- Maintain a highly professional, detail-oriented approach to all work (e.g., precision lawn care and clean, consistent presentation)
- Provide support for property readiness during events as needed
Qualifications
- Extensive experience in high-end residential landscaping or estate groundskeeping
- Strong technical knowledge of irrigation systems, landscaping equipment, and property maintenance
- Proven ability to lead, train, and manage a small team
- Highly detail-oriented with a strong work ethic and pride in workmanship
- Proactive problem-solver with excellent observational skills
- Comfortable coordinating with vendors and managing external service providers

Salary and Benefits
- Salary: $75,000–$85,000, commensurate with experience
