We are seeking an experienced, knowledgeable, and proactive Gardener to join a dedicated household team on a beautiful private family estate in Moreton-in-Marsh comprising approximately 50 acres, including 5 acres of formal gardens. This is a hands-on role suited to an enthusiastic horticultural professional who takes pride in maintaining gardens to an exceptional standard. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of seasonal planting, vegetable cultivation, pruning, lawn care, and general garden maintenance. They will be self-motivated, highly organised, and able to work collaboratively within a welcoming household team.
The estate is an informal and welcoming family home, requiring a flexible and positive approach to work.
Duties outlined not limited to :
- Maintain and develop formal gardens, borders, lawns, pathways, and landscaped areas to the hight standards.
- Plan and implement seasonal planting
- Manage vegetable gardens, including sowing, planting, cultivation, harvesting, and crop rotation.
- Carry out regular weeding, pruning, deadheading, mulching, and soil management.
- Monitor plant health and identify pests, diseases, and nutritional deficiencies, implementing appropriate treatments where necessary.
- Operate and maintain garden machinery and equipment safely and effectively.
- Assist with estate-wide projects and support the wider household and estate team when required.
- Ensure all outdoor areas are presented to an exceptional standard at all times.
- Work proactively, identifying areas for improvement and taking initiative where appropriate.
- Assist with the preparation of the grounds for family events and seasonal activities.
Candidate Requirements
- Proven experience working within a private estate, country house, formal gardens, or similar horticultural environment.
- Strong horticultural knowledge, including seasonal planting, plant care, vegetable cultivation, and garden maintenance.
- A genuine passion for gardening and estate management.
- Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively as part of a wider team.
- Proactive, organised, and able to prioritise workloads efficiently.
- Excellent attention to detail and high standards of presentation.
- Flexible attitude and willingness to assist in other areas of the estate when required.
- Good communication skills and a professional yet approachable manner.
- Relevant horticultural qualifications are desirable but not essential, depending on experience.
