Overview
A growing family in downtown Manhattan is looking for a dependable, nurturing, and proactive ROTA nanny to care for their newborn and 2-year-old. Care is shared by two ROTA nannies on 24-hour shifts, working 1-2 weeks on/ 1-2 weeks off. The nanny is live-in while on duty and lives out when off duty, so candidates must maintain their own housing in the area. The family travels often, both within the U.S. and abroad; when a trip takes them out of town, the family covers the nanny's flight back to home base for the off rotation. The family has a newborn care specialist for the baby's first 3–4 months, so the nanny can expect the baby to be in a consistent, well-established routine.
This is a long-term role for caregivers who want to build a genuine, lasting bond with the children and grow with them as their needs change. The right person loves working with young children, takes pride in creating a calm and nurturing home, and works well alongside a team. Both nannies would take turns accompanying the family on domestic and international trips. A flexible, adaptable approach is essential, since plans can change with travel, holidays, the children's routines, and other commitments that come up.
Responsibilities
Day to day, the nanny keeps the children engaged in age-appropriate play and outings and supports their overall care. Core responsibilities include:
Keeping each child on their daily rhythm — bottles and diaper changes for the baby, meals and snacks for the toddler, plus naps and play for both
Handle bottle feeds (breast milk or formula) for the baby and help introduce solids when ready, while preparing meals and snacks for the toddler and encouraging self-feeding
Providing warm, attentive care for both a newborn and a toddler
Maintain a safe, comfortable, and clean space for the children, following safe-sleep practices for the baby and consistent bedtime routines for the toddler
Lead developmental play suited to each age — tummy time and sensory activities for the baby, and imaginative play, early learning, arts and crafts, and active outdoor time for the toddler, with books and music for both
Work with the parents to shape routines that fit each child's stage, adjusting as they grow
Keep the children's spaces running smoothly: tidying the nursery and playroom, staying ahead on supplies, rotating out outgrown toys and clothes, and keeping diaper bags and outing gear packed and ready
Keep the parents in the loop on the children's day, mood, and anything noteworthy
Read situations well — know when to step in and take initiative
Keep children's supplies stocked and handle the light housekeeping that goes with their care — washing bottles, doing their laundry, and keeping their areas clean and sanitized
Take the children to outings, appointments, and activities, driving or walking as needed
Travel with the family, so care stays seamless on trips, packing everything the children need (clothing, gear, food, and the rest); light child-related housekeeping continues while away
On occasion, share a room with one of the children while traveling
