A distinguished private family in the Washington, D.C. metro area is seeking a polished, professional Companion / Lifestyle Assistant to provide thoughtful day-to-day support to an older principal within a private residence.
This is a unique opportunity for someone who enjoys building meaningful long-term relationships and understands the importance of balancing attentiveness with respect for independence and dignity. The ideal candidate is naturally warm, emotionally intelligent, and highly observant. They know when to engage in conversation, when to provide gentle guidance, and when to quietly ensure that the day is unfolding smoothly.
The principal has led an accomplished and intellectually rich life and enjoys thoughtful conversation, current events, history, and lifelong learning. The family hopes to find someone who is equally curious, well-read, and comfortable interacting in sophisticated social settings while maintaining the highest level of discretion and professionalism.
This position is best suited for an experienced Lifestyle Assistant, Executive Housekeeper, Butler, Companion, or similar private service professional who enjoys supporting an elderly principal through organization, consistency, and trusted companionship.
The schedule will generally be Monday through Friday, with 50 guaranteed hours per week. Flexibility is appreciated as schedules may occasionally shift based on the principal's activities or appointments.More details regarding the family and principal will be shared with candidates selected to interview.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities will evolve based on the principal's needs but may include:
- Providing thoughtful companionship and engaging conversation throughout the day
- Assisting with scheduling and appointment management
- Helping maintain daily routines and providing gentle reminders as appropriate
- Coordinating errands and accompanying the principal to appointments or outings as needed
- Supporting participation in social engagements and community activities
- Assisting with wardrobe, personal presentation, and preparation for appointments or events
- Liaising with household staff, drivers, vendors, and family members as appropriate
- Monitoring the overall flow of the day and communicating any concerns to the family
- Supporting a calm, organized, and welcoming home environment
- Performing occasional lifestyle and personal assistant duties as requested
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Previous experience supporting a private principal, executive, or UHNW family
- A polished, professional, and discreet demeanor
- Exceptional emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities
- Excellent communication skills
- A proactive mindset with the ability to anticipate needs
- An appreciation for confidentiality and long-term relationship building
- Flexibility and sound judgment in a private household environment
Requirements
- Authorization to work in the United States
- Previous experience working in UHNW homes
- Availablity to start ASAP
Salary and Benefits
- $45–$55 per hour, depending on experience
- 50 guaranteed hours per week
