Overview
A warm, high-achieving single-parent household on Manhattan’s Upper East Side is seeking an experienced Household Manager/Family Assistant to support a fully structured home with two school-age daughters (ages 7 & 10). The principal is a board-certified clinical psychologist with an international practice and travels periodically for work. This is a home-management-forward role with after-school childcare, ideal for a highly organized professional who enjoys independently managing a household and maintaining consistent routines for children. Two friendly family dogs are also part of the home.
Standard Weeks (Approx. 25 hrs/week)Monday–Friday | 2pm-7pm
- Afternoon home management & dinner preparation
- 5pm school pickup
- Evening routine: homework, baths, dinner
Travel Weeks (2–4 times per quarter | advance notice provided)
- Full-charge care with overnight coverage
- Morning routine & school departure (bus 7:10am)
- Evening pickup & bedtime routine
- Typically 2–4 consecutive nights
Guaranteed weekly hours provided year-round.
Responsibilities
Household Management
• Laundry and wardrobe care (including delicates & linens)• Maintain organized, guest-ready common areas• Inventory and restocking of household supplies• Receive deliveries and manage recurring orders• Coordinate with building staff & service providers• Maintain household reference information & systems
Kitchen & Meal Support
• Weekly menu planning• Grocery ordering & kitchen stocking• Prepare wholesome family dinners nightly
Errands & Vendors
• Dry cleaning, returns, alterations, pharmacy runs• Oversee cleaners, handymen, and vendors• Manage household logistics and scheduling
Children (After-School Care)
• School pickup (The Hewitt School)• Homework supervision & evening routines• Manage activity calendar & school communication• Pack backpacks & prepare materials• Wardrobe organization & seasonal rotation• Summer/holiday logistics coordination• Full-charge care during travel periods
Pet Care
• Daily walks & feeding• Vet and grooming coordination• Medication management as needed
Travel Support
• Prepare the home before the principal’s travel• Assist children’s packing• Maintain communication with the principal• Overnight care during travel
Qualifications
• Highly organized and anticipatory• Discreet, professional, and calm• Able to run a home independently• Warm but structured with children• Flexible for travel weeks with advance notice• Seeking a long-term role
Requirements
• Minimum 5+ years private household experience• Prior independent care of school-age children (including overnights)• Excellent professional references• Legal to work in the U.S.• Comfortable with dogs• CPR/First Aid certified (or willing prior to start)• Non-smoker• Reliable for occasional early morning coverage
Salary and Benefits
• $80,000–$90,000 annual salary DOE• Guaranteed weekly hours• Additional compensation for overnights/travel coverage• Paid time off and holidays
