Overview
A kind and busy family of four based in Bedford Hills seeking an experienced, proactive Family Assistant / Household Manager to support our home and day-to-day operations. The family has two children (ages 7 and 9), along with three dogs and two cats, and are looking for someone who can become a steady, long-term presence in their household.
The current assistant is retiring at the end of June after five years, and the family is ideally looking to have someone in place before then to allow for a smooth transition and overlap period.
The role is expected to be Monday through Friday, approximately 10/11am to 7pm, with some flexibility for occasional Saturday support as needed.
The role offers health insurance and provides a household vehicle for use during working hours. While a personal vehicle is not required for the job, candidates should have reliable transportation to and from work.
Responsibilities
- Household Errands & ShoppingManage grocery shopping and complete general household errands as needed.
- Meal PreparationPrepare healthy, family-style meals several nights per week, including children’s meals when parents are not home. Focus on nutritious, home-cooked food (no formal chef-level experience required, though a culinary background is a plus).
- Child Transportation & SupportCoordinate and assist with afternoon school pickups and transportation to after-school activities in collaboration with parents.
- Light Housekeeping & OrganizationMaintain daily tidiness of the home, including kitchen upkeep, bed-making, general organization, and plant care. Oversee and coordinate with an existing twice-weekly cleaning service, including performance management and replacement if necessary.
- Pet CareProvide daily care for household pets (three dogs and two cats), including feeding, litter box maintenance, and coordination of veterinary appointments.
- Household AdministrationManage day-to-day household operations, including:
- Monitoring school communications and flagging action items
- Scheduling pediatric and veterinary appointments
- Registering children for extracurricular activities
- Coordinating deliveries and service providers
- Scheduling routine home maintenance
- Tracking administrative items such as vehicle registration
Additional (Preferred) Support
- Provide occasional weekend assistance during informal at-home gatherings (approximately once per month, often partially catered)
- Availability for occasional evening babysitting on Fridays or Saturdays

Requirements
- Highly Organized & ProactiveExceptional organizational skills with the ability to independently manage and execute a weekly schedule across children’s activities, pet care, household vendors, and meal planning. Proactively creates and maintains task lists, anticipating needs rather than relying on real-time direction.
- Comfort with Multi-Pet HouseholdDemonstrated comfort caring for multiple pets (five total), including experience with feeding routines and administering medications as needed.
- Reliable DriverValid driver’s license with a clean driving record; confident and safe transporting children to and from school and activities.
- Tech-Savvy & Administrative OwnershipComfortable managing digital tools, including email and calendar systems. Able to independently oversee household scheduling and communications. iPad and desktop access will be provided.
Salary and Benefits
- Family is offering a salary of $90-$120k plus full medical benefits for the employee
