Overview
A lovely couple are seeking an exceptional full-time Housekeeper to oversee the day-to-day care and presentation of two neighbouring townhouses in Manhattan. The successful candidate will take ownership of both homes, ensuring they are impeccably maintained and consistently prepared.
This is a long-term opportunity for an experienced, career Housekeeper who takes genuine pride in their work. The ideal candidate will be highly proactive, exceptionally detail-oriented and naturally take ownership of the homes, anticipating needs, using sound judgement and maintaining the properties to the highest standards.
The anticipated schedule is Monday through Friday, generally 9:00am–5:00pm, with Tuesdays likely being 10:00am - 6:00pm to accommodate weekly refuse collection. The family is open to discussing a 30–40 hour work week for the right candidate. Flexibility will occasionally be required when the principals are in residence, entertaining or preparing for travel.
The family is interviewing immediately for a late August/early September start.
Responsibilities
- Maintain two neighbouring Manhattan townhouses to an exceptional standard.
- Complete all housekeeping duties, including cleaning, laundry, ironing, steaming and bed making.
- Carry out rotating deep cleaning and household organisation.
- Prepare the homes before the principals' arrivals and following departures.
- Coordinate deliveries, household supplies and inventories.
- Liaise with contractors and oversee routine household maintenance.
- Complete occasional grocery shopping, household errands and packing assistance.
- Assist with occasional guest or rental turnovers.
- Maintain outdoor areas, including terraces, plants and refuse collection.
- Communicate regularly with the principals and work collaboratively with the wider household team.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years' experience working as a Housekeeper within a private household.
- Exceptional attention to detail and organisational skills.
- Excellent laundry skills, including ironing, steaming and garment care.
- Highly proactive, self-motivated and comfortable working independently.
- Excellent judgement, with the ability to anticipate needs and take initiative.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Professional, discreet and trustworthy with excellent verifiable references.
Requirements
- Legal to work in the United States.
- Previous private household experience with excellent verifiable references.
- Physically fit and comfortable working across multiple floors and staircases.
- Able to work independently and confidently prioritise workload.
- Comfortable communicating with contractors, vendors and service providers.
- Strong spoken and written English.
- Flexible to occasionally adjust working hours when the principals are in residence.
Salary and Benefits
- $35–$45 per hour, depending on experience.
- Approximately 30–40 guaranteed hours per week (to be finalised with the successful candidate).
