Salary: £27,000 per annum + service charge
Work Schedule: Full-time, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays on a rota basis

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a passionate and enthusiastic Pastry Commis Chef to join the opening team of a brand-new restaurant within a prestigious luxury hotel and resort in County Durham. This is an excellent opportunity for an aspiring pastry chef to develop their skills within a high-quality hospitality environment and be part of an exciting new culinary venture from launch.
The property is renowned for delivering exceptional guest experiences, luxury accommodation, and outstanding food and beverage operations. Working alongside an experienced pastry and kitchen team, you will gain valuable exposure to a variety of pastry techniques and high-end dessert production.
Job Description:
As Pastry Commis Chef, you will support the pastry section in the preparation, production, and presentation of desserts, pastries, baked goods, and other pastry items to the highest standards. Working under the guidance of senior chefs, you will assist with daily mise en place, service preparation, and maintaining an organised and efficient pastry kitchen.

You will be involved in producing high-quality desserts and pastry items for restaurant guests and special events while ensuring consistency and attention to detail at all times.
Role Responsibilities:
- Assist with the preparation and presentation of desserts, pastries, breads, and baked goods
- Support the pastry team with daily mise en place and service preparation
- Ensure all dishes are prepared and presented to the required standards
- Follow recipes and production schedules accurately
- Maintain high standards of food hygiene, cleanliness, and organisation within the pastry section
- Assist with stock rotation and the correct storage of ingredients and products
- Support efforts to minimise food waste and maintain cost control measures
- Work collaboratively with the wider kitchen team to ensure smooth service operations
- Ensure food safety and health & safety procedures are followed at all times
- Demonstrate a willingness to learn and develop pastry skills and techniques
Candidate Requirements:
- Previous experience within a professional kitchen environment is desirable but not essential
- A genuine passion for pastry, baking, and desserts
- Basic knowledge of food preparation and kitchen operations
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Positive attitude and eagerness to learn from experienced chefs
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
- Good organisational and time management skills
- Strong teamwork and communication skills
- Relevant culinary qualifications would be advantageous
- Eligibility to work in the UK
