Overview and Opportunity
A prestigious private estate is seeking an experienced and highly professional Housekeeper, initially on a temporary basis with the possibility of becoming permanent for the right candidate, to join its household team.
This is an excellent opportunity for a meticulous and service-focused Housekeeper to work within a private family environment, maintaining exceptional standard s across the principal residence, guest areas and wider estate.
The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering a consistently high level of housekeeping and service to the family and their guests, whilst working collaboratively with the existing household team. A flexible and hands-on approach is essential, particularly during periods when the property is hosting guests.
Job Description
The Housekeeper will report to the Senior Housekeeper on a day-to-day basis and will work closely with the wider household and estate team.
The role encompasses all aspects of private household housekeeping, including the meticulous cleaning and care of the property, laundry, bed changing, care of antiques and fabrics, guest preparation and general household duties.
When the family are entertaining or guests are staying at the property, the role will become more varied and may include supporting additional freelance housekeeping staff, assisting with wider family requirements, spending more time in the kitchen and working flexible hours.
The Housekeeper will also be expected to assist with selected household errands, deliveries, shopping, driving and other duties as required, whilst maintaining the highest standards of discretion, professionalism and service.
Role Responsibilities
- Maintain the highest standards of cleanliness, presentation and housekeeping throughout the private residence.
- Undertake general cleaning and housekeeping duties across the property, including guest and event spaces.
- Care for antiques, delicate fabrics, furnishings and valuable household items appropriately.
- Manage laundry, ironing, changing beds and general bedroom preparation.
- Prepare rooms and areas of the property ahead of family and guest arrivals.
- Prepare breakfast trays and assist with table service when required.
- Provide a discreet, professional and highly personalised level of service to the family and their guests.
- Assist with shopping, family errands, deliveries and other household requirements.
- Undertake driving duties when required.
- Assist with dog care as necessary.
- Support stock taking and maintain appropriate household supplies.
- Assist with events and guest requirements, including supporting additional freelance housekeeping staff.
- Provide flexible support to the wider household team during busy periods.
- Assist in the kitchen with preparation and clearing, either alongside or in the absence of the Chef.
- Undertake light cooking duties when required.
- Liaise with on-site contractors, including plumbers, electricians and other tradespeople.
- Assist with day-to-day property security, including handling burglar and fire alarm systems.
- Work collaboratively with other household and estate staff to ensure the smooth running of the property.
- Maintain confidentiality and discretion at all times.
- Undertake additional household duties as required by the family and Senior Housekeeper.
Candidate Requirements
- Previous experience working as a Housekeeper within a private household, luxury hotel, estate or similarly high-standard environment.
- Exceptional attention to detail and pride in maintaining immaculate standards.
- Strong knowledge of professional housekeeping, laundry and garment care.
- Experience handling delicate fabrics, antiques and valuable furnishings would be advantageous.
- A professional, discreet and service-oriented approach.
- Ability to work independently whilst also being a strong team player.
- Flexible and adaptable approach to duties and working hours.
- Comfortable assisting with kitchen duties and light food preparation.
- Good organisational and time-management skills.
- Ability to interact professionally with family members, guests, contractors and other household staff.
- Driving experience and a valid driving licence would be advantageous.
- Experience caring for dogs would be beneficial.
- Strong understanding of health and safety and safe working practices.
- Excellent communication skills.
- A willingness to undertake varied duties and support other members of the household team when required.
