An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced, proactive and highly organised Private House Manager to take responsibility for the smooth and efficient running of a prestigious private residence. This is a hands-on and varied role, working closely with the principals and wider household team to ensure the property is maintained to an exceptional standard and that all household operations run seamlessly.
The successful candidate will be confident managing staff, contractors and suppliers, overseeing property maintenance and security, organising household systems and inventories, and anticipating the needs of the family. The role would suit someone who takes genuine pride in maintaining a beautiful home, has excellent attention to detail and understands the discretion, professionalism and high standards expected within a private household.
Key Responsibilities
Household Management
• Oversee the day-to-day running and presentation of the property.
• Ensure the household is maintained to an exceptional standard.
• Establish and maintain household routines, systems and procedures.
• Manage household inventories, including food, cleaning products, linen and other supplies.
• Organise household deliveries, collections and errands.
• Ensure the home is prepared appropriately for the principals, guests and special occasions.
• Oversee household security and ensure appropriate procedures are followed.
• Manage keys, access arrangements and household records.
Staff Management
• Supervise and coordinate household staff, including housekeepers, nannies, drivers, gardeners, chefs and other employees or contractors.
• Prepare staff rotas and schedules where required.
• Allocate daily responsibilities and monitor standards of work.
• Assist with recruitment, onboarding and training of household staff.
• Manage staff holidays, sickness and cover arrangements.
• Foster a professional, respectful and collaborative household environment.
Contractors & Suppliers
• Liaise with tradespeople, maintenance companies and specialist contractors.
• Arrange and oversee repairs, maintenance and servicing.
• Obtain quotations and manage household expenditure within agreed budgets.
• Ensure contractors are appropriately vetted and supervised while on the property.
• Maintain records of warranties, servicing schedules and important household documentation.
Property Management
• Monitor the condition of the property, furnishings, fixtures and equipment.
• Coordinate regular maintenance and preventative servicing.
• Oversee security, alarms, CCTV, heating, air conditioning and other household systems.
• Ensure gardens, vehicles and external areas are properly maintained.
• Coordinate preparations for the family's arrival and departure from the property.
• Assist with additional residences or properties where applicable.
Events & Entertaining
• Coordinate private entertaining, dinners and family events.
• Work closely with chefs, caterers, florists, event companies and other suppliers.
• Ensure the property is prepared before and restored afterwards.
• Assist with guest arrangements and ensure visitors receive a discreet and professional welcome.
Family Support
• Anticipate the needs and preferences of the principals and family.
• Arrange personal errands, appointments, bookings and household-related travel logistics where required.
• Work with the family to organise and book holidays
• Assist with packing and preparation for travel.
• Coordinate deliveries, gifts and special requests.
• Maintain complete discretion regarding the family's private affairs.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will have:
• Previous experience as a House Manager in a similar private-household position.
