Overview
A private family on the Upper East Side is seeking a full-time house manager to join their team. The successful candidate will be comfortable managing a 20,000 sq. ft. apartment. The schedule requires the candidate to be flexible, able to work long hours, including weekends and holidays, as needed, and to travel to a second property occasionally. The family would prefer someone already local to NYC area.
Responsibilities
- Maintain a guest-ready, spotless home at all times
- Prior high-end home management experience
- Oversee vendors
- Create and maintain policies and procedures for deliveries, staff schedules, projects, vehicle maintenance, and inventory and supplies
- Supervise household deliveries: staging, packing/unpacking, and tracking
- Oversee, train, and manage the housekeeping team
- Maintain stock levels of household supplies, pantry items, and everyday provisions
- Coordinate all maintenance projects and ongoing property upkeep
- Lead event preparations, guest arrivals, and formal service planning
- Work with the facilities manager and a 24/7 on-site security team to provide on-call support for household needs, including systems (HVAC, lighting, IT, etc.)
- Assist in recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and onboarding housekeeping staff
- Schedule and monitor staff shifts, rotations, and attendance
- Maintain and manage separate calendars for the house, staff, and management
- Work alongside the Lead Housekeeper to manage wardrobe care, packing/unpacking, seasonal transitions, and preservation of specialty garments
- Conduct daily walkthroughs to assess cleanliness and inspect for structural issues or damage
- Oversee formal service, including place settings and event-specific arrangements.
- Support the Chef with kitchen logistics and organization as needed
- Plan and coordinate holiday celebrations, private events, floral designs, and formal service standards
- This position will work closely with the personal assistant and family chef
Requirements
- Legal to work in the US
- Verifiable references
- Minimum of five years of high-end home experience
- Longevity in your previous positions of at least five years is required to be considered
- Must be based in or near New York City
- Technologically proficient; comfortable using household and scheduling systems
- Strong communication skills—both written and verbal
- Service/hospitality oriented
- Knowledge of formal dining protocols
- Wine knowledge is a plus
- Proactive, organized, and self-motivated
- Versed in HR functions such as staff hires, onboarding, and scheduling
