A private family on Manhattan’s Upper East Side is seeking an experienced, detail-oriented Laundress to join a large, established household team within a formal luxury residence.The ideal candidate will have extensive experience working in high-end private homes, with exceptional knowledge of fine garment care, luxury textiles, and formal household standards. This position requires a professional who takes pride in their work, demonstrates exceptional attention to detail, and maintains a positive, team-oriented attitude. The successful candidate must be comfortable working collaboratively with other household staff while maintaining the highest standards of garment care, organization, and presentation.
Responsibilities
- Manage all personal and household laundry, including washing, drying, ironing, steaming, folding, and proper storage.
- Provide expert care for fine garments, couture and designer clothing, delicate fabrics, and specialty textiles.
- Hand-wash, spot-treat, and remove stains from delicate and high-value items using appropriate techniques.
- Care for luxury bed linens, table linens, towels, and decorative textiles to formal household standards.
- Maintain organized closets, wardrobes, linen rooms, and laundry areas.
- Change and prepare bed linens and towels for the family and guest accommodations.
- Coordinate with outside dry cleaners, tailors, and specialty cleaners; track items sent out and returned.
- Perform minor mending, such as replacing buttons and repairing small tears.
- Rotate and store seasonal wardrobes and linens properly.
- Prepare wardrobes and linens for family arrivals, travel, guests, and private entertaining.
- Work collaboratively with the Housekeeping team and other household staff to ensure seamless daily operations.
- Maintain laundry supplies, equipment, and inventory as needed.
- Report equipment or maintenance concerns to the appropriate team members.
- Maintain complete discretion and confidentiality.

Compensation: $55 per hour
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of professional laundress experience within a luxury private residence, Manhattan townhouse, or formal estate preferred.
- Expert knowledge of fabric care, garment labels, stain removal, and the proper handling of fine and delicate textiles.
- Excellent hand-washing, ironing, pressing, and steaming skills.
- Previous experience working within a large, fully staffed private household strongly preferred.
- Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high household standards.
- Positive, collaborative attitude with a strong team-player mentality.
- Ability to follow established household procedures and work efficiently alongside other staff.
- Highly organized, proactive, reliable, and able to manage daily responsibilities independently.
- Flexible and willing to assist with additional household responsibilities as needed.
