Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Head Chef to lead the kitchen of a highly regarded 26-cover bistro restaurant in Cumbria. Working alongside a Commis Chef and reporting to the Managing Director, you will oversee all aspects of the kitchen, drive standards, develop the food offering, and play a key role in the restaurant’s continued growth. This position would suit a passionate and calm leader from a strong bistro, gastro pub, or Rosette background who enjoys mentoring others and delivering quality food in a close-knit environment.
Role & Responsibilities
- Lead and manage all day-to-day kitchen operations.
- Maintain high standards of food quality, consistency, and presentation.
- Develop and refine seasonal menus and specials.
- Manage stock control, ordering, and supplier relationships.
- Ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene, and health & safety regulations.
- Train, mentor, and support junior team members and apprentices.
- Monitor kitchen costs and help drive profitability.
- Work closely with management to continually improve the guest experience.
Candidate Requirements
- Previous experience in a senior kitchen leadership role.
- Strong background within high-end bistro, premium gastro pub, or independent restaurant environments.
- Proven experience leading and developing a team.
- Calm and professional approach during busy service.
- Passion for high-quality ingredients and seasonal cooking.
- Strong organisational and time management skills.
- Excellent knowledge of food safety and kitchen compliance.
- Ambitious mindset with a desire to drive standards and progression.
